Here comes Kimchimon

Kimchimon was supposed to be due in mid of March. However, he had decided to wriggle out 2 weeks earlier. We had a gynae appointment on 02 March, and I didn't expect it to be the last one. I found out I was already 3cm dilated and the amniotic fluid was in the low side. So he (the gynae) asked "You want to give birth tomorrow? 8am ok?" I was in a bit of shock. Ummmm... Can I say no?  ðŸ˜…

After the visit to gynae, i went home and started to finish up packing the hospital bag as well as getting the baby cot ready for Kimchimon's arrival; not forgeting the pre-admissions booking of the hospital too. I could feel the contractions in the evening but they were quite mild. I didn't really sleep that night, a little excited and a little nervous. We woke up super early to make sure we were not late. We gathered the hospital bag and set off to Thomson Medical Centre (TMC) in a cab. Breakfast was the last thing on my mind, which I came to realized I should have eaten. Did you managed to get some food before delivery? Share with me in the comments below, let me know what you had too.

Note to self and all mommies-to-be reading this: always remember to have the most important meal of the day, especially when you are giving birth soon.

We arrived TMC just in time. Once we are done with the admission procedures (remember to bring all the receipts to the gynae and tests taken to claim Medisave) , we were directed to where the delivery suites were. I changed into the hospital gown and was given an enema to clear the bowels. They also attached the doppler transducer to monitor the baby's heartbeat. And then we wait. The nurses and gynae checked in once in awhile.  Since I didn't had breakfast, the nurse offered me some biscuits and milo; which disappeared a few hours later and I was hungry again. By then I was told I shouldn't eat anymore and was given a glucose drip instead.

Before experiencing birth, I thought I would be able to take the pain. But then I realized could not. Inhaling the laughing gas did not make me laugh😟, it just made me felt oozie; and my husband beside me talking (he said he thought it could make me forget about the pain), did not help. We finally informed the nurse that we need epidural. After the epidural was administered, there was no pain at all, and my mind was finally clear.

At around 3pm, it was time. I was finally 10 cm dilated and we can start to push. I tired my best to push, but i couldnt feel anything due to the epidural. The midwife helped to push too. And 7 hours in the delivery suite, Kimchimon finally said hi to the world at 3.21pm on 03 Mar 2019.

The first thought in my mind after seeing my baby was "why he look so ugly", hahahaha. So gray and wrinkly. What's the first thought after you met your baby? Let's share in the comments below!  After delivery, we were taken to the delivery ward, which is very much like a hotel. The whole stay in TMC felt more like a staycation (we opted for the one bed room as I wasn't quite comfortable sharing a room with a stranger and besides, the husband can bunk in together too). The room was rather spacious and comfortable. I had my first shower, and it felt so good. My brother came in the evening with prata, my first decent meal and it was so satisfying. Where were my parents? They were overseas.  -.- My in-laws came too. After 2 hours, we finally got to see Kimchimon, not gray and wrinkly, but cute and pink.

At TMC, they gave Kimchimon his first shot, BCG and was told he didn't cry! Brave baby! He also passed the hearing test. They also arranged a pediatrician and a lactation specialist. The nurses are very helpful too. On 05 May 2019, both Kimchimon and I were ready to go home.

Welcome home Kimchimon and let the confinement begin.

Kimchimon and Achilles tendinitis

Kimchimon and Achilles tendinitis Last year, Kimchimon was complaining of having pain in both of his feet (heel to be exact) for quite a while and it got so bad that he cried whenever he took a step and refused to walk.  We first brought him to a TCM nearby as I was alone with Kimchimon with a lot of groceries when he refused to walk. I thought TCM might be a good idea as i don't want Kimchimon to take so much medication. The physician told me that Kimchimon might have flat foot like Dillon, which was why his feet were in pain. He mentioned that kids in his age won't usually experience that much pain and was quite puzzled with Kimchimon's extreme pain. He advised Kimchimon to rest his feet as much as possible, and probably soak his feet in warm water to help ease the pain. He also mentioned that wearing shoes with comfortable sole. He then proceeded to do some Tui Na on Kimchimon's feet. Kimchimon's feet did got a bit better during the weekend with rest, however, t...

Our New House - House Hunting

After Kimchimon turned 1, I felt that maybe it was time for us to find a home of our own. My mother-in-law's place was great, very convenient with supermarket and the train station just right at our doorstep but this tiny human needed a bigger and more toddler friendly place. This post will be about how we got our own home. Getting a house in Singapore is never easy nor is it cheap. We had some options available: 1) Build-To-Order Flats (which is not an option as it would take about 5 years to complete during the Covid period and i wanted to move out as soon as i can)  2) Sale of Balance Flat - these are flats which were leftover or the previous owner had a change of mind during the last launch (the ratio for Chinese is always 0!) 3) Resale flat (the only option for us since it is readily available) Before looking for a resale flat, I went to HDB's website to calculate the approximate cost of the house that we could afford and the type of subsidies we were eligible for (you can...

DIY Toys for Kimchimon

I had a T-shirt that Kimchimon likes the penguin print so much that I had decided to make a rattle toy based on the print. This post will take you through the steps to DIY your own penguin rattle toy and a busy board. Here's the step-by-step on how to do it: Materials you will need: - Plastic from cornflakes packaging or crinkly paper - Fabric of different texture ( I used felt, jeans, FBT shorts and my skirt) - 2 big and cute cute plastic buttons to attach the wings to the body (not too small, so they won't eat ingest it)  - ribbons if different colours and textures for sensory  - cotton for filling   Tools that you will need: - needle and thread for sewing or a sewing machine - scissors To start off, I ordered some cat bells and a teething toy on Shopee. I also went back to my mom's place to scour for some old clothes of mine for the body and ribbons to make the tags. Firstly, I drew the penguin pattern onto a piece of A4 size paper. You can download the patter...
